Seph and Zack, 'confessing your feelings to someone you think are asleep', Sephiroth doing the confessing?

Four in the morning and Zack was snoring loud enough to wake the dead; Sephiroth, very much alive and very much awake, thought it possibly the most comforting sound in the world.

He had his back to the headboard in the same bed as his lieutenant, knees folded up and the extra pillow tucked up in the curve of his body, watching as Zack snorfled and kicked the blankets around in his sleep. "...and you won't even be tired in the morning," Sephiroth muttered, half to himself. "You make me feel like such an old man sometimes. Barely able to keep up with you."

Schnooooork, replied Zack, and Sephiroth stuffed his face in his pillow a moment to muffle a sudden urge to laugh.

The schnorks evened out to a slow rhythm of schnrfs, and Sephiroth lifted his head enough to rest his chin on the pillow. "...I'm lucky," he whispered. "I'm lucky you're so - you. A stubborn busybody with more energy than any one person ought to have. One ounce less of any of that and I..."

Destroy, went the hissing thread of malice in the back of his head, contained, no longer in control, but ever present. He might never be alone in his head again.

"...if you only knew it, Zack," he confided. "You could make me a sword in your hand, if you wanted." He drew an unsteady breath. "But I don't think you'll make it that easy for me."

So saying, he turned over, firmly reclaimed a corner of the blanket, and closed his eyes; in his determination to get some sleep, he did not see that in the other bed, Cloud's eyes were slitted open.

omg Zack snoring being so endearing and reassuring, I can see it. He must be exhausted by that point - and no wonder Seph and Cloud can't sleep.
