Because my hobby is making you cry.
Imagine this in the voice of a stuffy lecturer.

It is the odd custom of the Arendelle monarchs to refer to themselves as princes and princesses, rather than kings and queens as the rulers of their neighboring countries do. The custom has its roots in antiquity, and the strange tale of the Snow Queen.
I see you've all heard the tale a hundred times, so I'll spare you another recitation. Suffice to say that the Snow Queen's royal sister insisted on the title 'princess' to the end of her days, and her children after her did the same, and so on and so forth to the present day. Of course it amounts to little more than a quaint little tradition; but then, the same could be said of all hereditary monarchies in this day and age.
Still, such traditions have their place. And once in a while the people of Arendelle still speak of the day when Elsa will return and lift them out of their long, long winter.
