OC Meme, 8
Hey, it's another hoomin who hangs out with Beasties! This one's not been hanging around anywhere near as long, so she's not quite as fully realized.
OC #8: Callie Buchanan [Beast Wars (Steampunk'verse)]
Cal Buchanan might be one of the greatest engineering minds of his generation. His work on motion mechanics and energy has already revolutionised work on his father’s ranch and could take the manufacturing industry up North by storm. His notions on clean-burning fuel are centuries ahead of his time. He is, as the sages say, the shit.
Unfortunately, ‘Cal Buchanan’ doesn’t exist.
Callie Buchanan is the 15-year-old daughter of a remarkably supportive Oklahoma rancher entering her inventions into the 1876 Centennial Expo in Philadelphia disguised as a boy. Her ‘living machines,’ many of them modeled after the favorite exotic animals of her sort-of-adopted brother Cyrus, are technical marvels, but she’s under no illusions as to how they’d be received were her true gender known. Her life is already exciting enough, but it gets downright amazing when the Maximals and Predacons land practically on top of the Fair, each faction using her steam-powered animatronics as their brand-new beast modes!
…yeah, she’s in over her head.
Callie is cheerful, clever, resourceful, and utterly fascinated by her alien friends. It makes it a little hard for them to not show off. ;) After a few comedy-of-errors scenes wherein the Maximals utterly fail to either hide their presence from her or contain her, they take her on as a native guide and medic of sorts. In return Callie agrees to help them keep their presence a secret while they attempt to track down the rogue Predacons they were chasing in the first place. Unfortunately, Megatron and his cronies have steam-powered beast modes too, and they’re every bit as well-designed as the Maximals… and Megatron scares the living hell out of Callie.
…and that, in a nutshell, is Beast Wars Steampunk Style. :D Maybe I’ll start on that next year as their 20-year tribute, what do you think?
