OC Meme, 24
I've mentioned Phaedra before, but here's the extended version.
OC #24, Phaedra [Pokemon]
Kalos isn’t a monarchy anymore, but it still has its fair share of nobly-born families who haven’t let go of their power and prestige. They’re rich, well-educated, well-spoken, and utterly insufferable. Phaedra should know - she grew up among them, the daughter of a servant in a noble household. Phaedra would happily play with the noble children her own age when she was little, but as they grew older they started to withdraw from her or push her around. Phaedra’s outlook on nobles, kids, and friends soured around that time, and she stuck to her mother and Pokemon for company.
When Phaedra’s mother is fired from her position after years of faithful service, Phaedra takes it into her head that successful Pokemon trainers often end up wealthy themselves, and sets out to earn her fortune through battling. Her main attacker is a Venipede, but she quickly gains an Espurr and a Minccino for her team as well. She quickly discovers that nobles can be difficult to beat - all that extra free time to study and practice battling - but her resentment on her mother’s behalf drives her to seek them out as opponents anyway, and in any case the prize money’s better. Phaedra discovers she has a talent for Pokemon battles, but she’s still undecided whether she wants to go for Champion. It seems like a lot of unnecessary fuss.
Despite the rather dark feelings driving her to battle, Phaedra is careful to be respectful and kind to her Pokemon, periodically asking them if they still want to battle for her. She blames herself when they’re injured, despite Espurr’s psychic assurances, and trains with them every chance she gets. She also sends money to her mother every week, even if it’s not much.
Doing these kinda makes me want to write fanchar-drabbles. Maybe I'll make that a regular Thing too. ^_^
