So. I can't lie to myself anymore. This is who we are as Americans.

Bigoted. Selfish. Breathtakingly stupid.

A lot of people in the US will not deserve what's coming for them. But ironically, leopards don't discriminate. A year from now there'll be a whole subgenre of articles along the lines of "this woman voted for the leopards, now she has no face, isn't that sad," and no, it will not be sad. It will be the closest we ever get to justice.

I'm fine. I'm well away from the country, for all that matters. I'm mainlining Stardew Valley. I haven't written anything. It's a bit difficult to write about finding hope in the darkness when I've just lost mine.

If future civilizations come across ours, I want them to know: this was all preventable. We could have averted the climate apocalypse. We chose bigotry instead.

I don't think anyone reading this will fall into either of these categories, so: if you voted for Trump, fuck you. Biden didn't actually call you garbage but you really are garbage. Also, if you could have voted and didn't, double fuck you. You could have helped.

This is it for us. It's all over but the screaming.

It is double painful to see all the news articles now about the damage his policies are going to do. The face eating had already started and a lot of people still don't get it.

Gonna get rough, but we will hang in there and help.

Yeah. I...I might need to stop following the news for a few years. I mean, just seeing his name or face or that ridiculously cynical, uncaring voice he uses makes me angry, and high blood pressure runs in my family.

I and mine will probably be ok. I wouldn't be surprised if some actually useful policies at work (like telework) get repealed for no particular reason. And my agency might get reorged which would be a whole lot of mess for again, no particular reason, but...though the chances that that would eliminate my position are NOT ZERO, I think it's unlikely, esp. if we manage to hold onto the House.

Still. Faith in humanity now irreparably injured. Last time I at least could tell myself that those who voted for him didn't really know what he would do. Not this time. Half the country, apparently, CHOSE this. Hope they like leopards.

I felt utter dread the first time around, hoped for about a week into his administration that it wouldn't be as bad as I feared and he kept exceeding my expectations at how low the bar could go and how horrible he could be. Dread is ten times worse this time around - doing self care as best I can, making physical/mental/financial health a priority
