cut for politics, again
here's what i'm telling myself in order to cope:
- TFG is going to die soon. he's 78, eats garbage and doesn't exercise, and is about to step back into a job where we know he had rage explosions on the regular. I don't see him surviving the next 4 years. Yes, that means President Vance, but neither Vance nor any other of the shitheels in the fascist party has anywhere near the pull TFG has. As soon as he's gone the GOP will fracture and his followers will eat each other alive.
- to be ruled by fascists is to be ruled by a collection of brownnosers, nepo babies and other idiots. They will be able to do some of the awful things they intend to do, but not all, and the entire edifice will be built of the political equivalent of popsicle sticks and scotch tape. with luck we'll be able to knock it all down sooner or later.
- the nice thing about knowing what's coming is you know what to prepare for. I think some of that is already happening in DC and in state/local govts, but ordinary people can and will do it too.
- other countries are succeeding in combating climate change where the US is failing. Maybe the climate apocalypse can be mitigated somewhat.
i told my friend the other day that it's not fair that we live in a world where there are supervillains but not superheroes. But we're not helpless. ...that said, if a Ninja Turtle or four wants to pop up and start kicking some fascists I won't complain.

The heroes I look at: organizers for fundraising to help the in-danger people, the ACLU pushing uphill, doctors who are going to the mats for their patients against insurance, lawyers discounting fees to help at-risk folks.
