OC Meme, 22 and 23

Double post, and with that I'm finally caught up! These two are a little light on detail because they're not as developed as they could be.

OC #22, Norah [Buffy the Vampire Slayer]

Norah is a classmate of Buffy’s, who generally slips under the radar: she keeps to herself, sometimes sounds like an eighty-year-old trapped in a sixteen-year-old’s body, but strangely she’s not a bully-target. She demonstrates why, in her Intro Ep, by not taking any of Cordy’s shit re: assigned-groups project. (Did ANYBODY like those? I would have infinitely preferred to work on my own.) Meanwhile, boys in the school are dropping like flies, victims of a seemingly accelerated aging/wasting disease; Xander has an ‘intimate encounter’ with what he’s fairly sure is a Giant Snake and barely escapes with his life; and what with one thing and another it turns out Norah’s a naga. More to the point, she’s one of a whole nest of nagas that Buffy has to wade in and fight, and is torn between loyalty to her family and knowing that, y’know, killing people willy-nilly is not only indefensible but not really sustainable. She yells at Buffy a bit for being species-ist, but ultimately her conflicted feelings get her labeled a traitor by her overbearing aunts, and they end up feeding on her life energy to gain enough strength to defeat the Slayer. Buffy, enraged by this, hands them their scaley asses. Norah survives, but she looks about eighty, and drops out of school to live in seclusion.

Later on, she feeds on the life essence of a vampire who was angling to feed on her, regaining her youthful appearance (although the act leaves her throwing up for a week), and becomes a kind of auxiliary Scooby and additional source of underground-monster-culture knowledge.

(Norah is also the prototype-form of Icessi, the naga character in my second-ever published short story, "Skin and Scales".)

OC #23, Ryssnathi Kestrel [Star Wars]

Post-RotJ, the galaxy is filled with a new generation of Force-sensitives just starting to poke their heads up. Some of them find their way to Luke Skywalker and his Jedi Academy; a few seek out or fall into the Dark Side; some of them just… live their lives, or try to. Ryss is in the latter category - a courier and occasional smuggler, though who isn’t these days, with a healthy dollop of Force-powers. Although aware of her Force-sensitivity, and able to use it to avoid all kinds of trouble, Ryss has no intention of developing it further. Responsibility? Self-control? All that mumbo-jumbo? No sir, not me, I guarantee it! I want much more than this provincial liiiiife~

…ahem.

Of course, destiny has other plans for Ryss, and soon enough her Force talent drags her halfway across the galaxy on a series of encounters with familiar faces, culminating in her taking on the kind of responsibility that would make a Jedi fall on his ass. But hey, all in a day’s work, or something.
