Ficbit: Megatron and Starscream
TF fic that doesn't have a single Autobot in it? Who am I and what have I done with Moogle?
...profoundly depressed/anxious/idek, is who I am these days tbh. I'm probably going to be even less talkative/productive than usual for a while until I get some mental HP back or the world stops being so fucking terrible all the time, whichever comes first. But in the meantime, have a scene that just popped into my head sans context.

Megatron took a long swallow of his energon, until at last the only ambient light in the room was from their optics, and dismissed the cube. "Well," he half slurred, "let's have it."
Starscream frowned at his back. "Have what?"
"Isn't this the part where you tell me how much better you'd be doing if you had leadership of the Decepticons?" Megatron asked, leaning back in his chair, luxuriating in high-grade-aided relaxation. "Come on, then, Starscream. Don't keep me in suspense." His voice lowered perceptibly. "What would you be doing, in my place?"
Starscream considered several half-formed responses, rejected them all. Finally he admitted, "I haven't the faintest clue."
A low, humorless chuckle was all Megatron could manage in response, and somehow that was the worst part of all of this. "I'll tell you what I wouldn't be doing," Starscream snapped, stomping to the dispenser to pull himself a cube of tank-rot of his own. "I wouldn't be sitting in the dark drinking myself maudlin-!" He broke off in shock when Megatron's chuckle broke into a full-throated laugh.
"There it is!" Megatron declared, sounding for a moment like his old self again. "I knew you wouldn't disappoint me."
"Oh, shut up," Starscream muttered, but he threw himself into the chair opposite Megatron's and lifted the cube in a brief, half-sarcastic toast to his leader before drinking it down.
