TotK yelling! Ending spoilers! Wheeeee~

This took a while because I was processing everything. And then it took a while because it seems like everything takes my brain a while these days. And also because I have FIVE drabble_zone drabbles to link at the end of this and if I wait any longer it's going to be, like, twelve.

1) okay so i did suspect something was up with the Zelda in the blood moon cutscene, but i'm not gonna lie, the first blood moon after defeating Fake!Zelda was an excellent 'holy shit' moment.

1a) on that subject, the Zelda-blood-moon thing kind of... implies that Ganondorf had been creeping on Link that whole time? Keeping track of him somehow, at least? Which, given he definitely has some kind of creepy dynamic towards Zelda... >_>, is all I'm saying.

2) yeah, so, I can't flurry rush. I think I pulled it off, like, once my entire playthrough aside from the shrine that is supposed to teach you how. So when Ganondorf perfect dodged me that first time I fucking freaked out.

2a) actually that entire boss sequence was me freaking out. And failing to compensate for that fact that he could perfect dodge me and I couldn't. ultimately I only won by outlasting him with food. That's Ganondorf's biggest weakness, that he has no food. If he ever learned to cook Hyrule would be boned.

3) As someone who spent more time than I really should have crossing my fingers for playable Zelda, the fact that dragon!Zelda at least got to participate in the final spectacle fight was. Somewhat of a balm to my poor tattered soul. But also wrecked me in other ways, because Zeldaaaaaaaa

4) The final sequence where Link finally gets to catch Zelda was an excellent bit of final emotional catharsis, but...

4a) ...her transformation back to Zeldaness felt a little too arbitrary to me? Like I guess Sonia couldn't show up until Ganondragon was dead and Rauru couldn't reverse the transformation on his own, but none of that was explained or even hinted at. It just kinda... happened. I was expecting Impa to come up with something, even a hint, but nope, no signposting in the slightest, just Fairy Godmother popping up and waving a magic wand. On that note, I really wish they'd leaned into Link's arm being unsalvageable. If we'd been told 'hey we can bring Zelda back but you need to sacrifice your sword arm' Link wouldn't have hesitated. ....also Purah and Robbie would have insisted on inventing Cool Sheikah Tech Prosthetics which would have set things up nicely for a hypothetical next game in the series. :DDD ....but instead Nintendo flinched at making Link an amputee and the story's just that bit poorer for it.

all of that seems very critical, doesn't it? XD but nitpicking aside I really do adore this game and will probably be replaying it several times. I've promised myself I wouldn't do a new playthrough until the DLC comes out. Which, yeah, we haven't been promised DLC but it seems like a pretty safe assumption.

.....5) My only request from the universe for the DLC is another crack at Master Kohga. Like, come on, that was a blatant Team Rocketing at the end there, he's obviously not dead. XD

(5a) the Yiga in general are so fucking great in this game, they steal every scene they're in, they're a terrifying death cult that just happens to be made up of weirdo idiots, it's great.)

(6) Do I like this better than BotW? I'm honestly not sure. Certainly there is so much more Stuff in TotK, which I remember complaining that it felt like BotW could have given us a little more to do. But I suspect that if I ever go back to BotW I will appreciate the simplicity of it. There's a... comforting melancholy to it that TotK doesn't have. On the other hand, TotK is about different emotions so it doesn't really need to retain that particular one.)

Currently playing: Shadows over Loathing, just for something completely different. I do want to 100% TotK, but I'm taking a break for now.

ANYWAY. As promised, drabbles:

Dark Clouds - TFG1, Bluestreak, for prompt: weather warning. It's about healing.

Faith Like Embers - TFG1, Optimus & Ironhide, for prompt: faith. Optimus being sappy.

Baffled - TFG1, Hot Rod and an OC, for prompt: seeking shelter. In which Roddy is told off for being a turbo-revvin' young punk.

Love at First Scientific Observation - FF7, Lucrecia and an OC, for prompt: love who you love. Lucrecia's taste in men is weird.

The Power of Pride - TFG1, Optimus, for prompt: parade. Optimus being a sap, again.
