Oh hey, Jennifer Walters popped up again in Mighty Thor... and like everything else recently, was treated like crap.

If you saw the first season of Riverdale, you may recall its version of Dilton Doiley isn't the genial, well-liked genius of the comics, but a somewhat disturbed survivalist. This month's issue of the show's tie-in comic takes a closer look at him. Warning for child abuse.

Dark Lord Cares for Wayward Children

Someone left a kind comment on one of my Wind Waker fics a while ago, and last night I finally got around to putting together a reply, in which I wrote...

Ganondorf's acknowledgment that Link and Tetra are children results in several subtle hints that he cares more about their wellbeing than just about anyone else in the game. Personally I tend to find this narrative dissonance amusing rather than poignant, but that's probably because I'm a terrible person. That, and the dynamic character juxtaposition between savage murder children and salty evil wizards is just not something I get enough of in my daily life. Why is "Dark Lord Cares for Wayward Children" not an established literary genre?

Which made me wonder, if this something that hasn't been done, MAYBE I SHOULD DO IT MYSELF. I mean, actually, maybe I should? Okay, like...

Honestly this is exactly the novel I want to read, and I kind of wish someone else would write it.

ETA: I love Jeffrey Brown's Darth Vadar and Son series of comics, but they are too wholesome. I think that's the point, but I need both the Dark Lord and the child hero to actually be evil and obnoxious.

(spoken:)
The foreman over there hates the gang,
The poor people on the farms get it so rough,
Truck drivers drive like the devil,
The policemen they're acting so tough.

They need water
Good water
They need water
And I'm sure there isn't one of us here
Who'd say no to somebody's daughter
(scattered shouts) "No!" "No!" "No!" "No!" "No!"

The foreman over there hates the gang
The poor people on the farms get it so rough
Truck drivers drive like the devil
The policemen they're acting so tough
They need water
Good water
They need water
And maybe somebody's daughter

Indian Lake is burning
The New York skyline is hazy
The River Thames is turning dry
The whole world is blazing!
We need water
Wow yeah good water
Ooh we need water
And maybe somebody's daughter

Ah gimme, gimme good water
Ah gimme gimme gimme good water
Ah gimme good water
Please don't refuse me, mister,
I seen your daughter at the oasis
And I'm beginning to blister!

My Chevrolet just made steam
Your crop is laying foul
My grass skirt's lost its green
I'm alive but I don't know how
I need water
Good, good water
They need water

Gimme gimme gimme good water,
Wow, gimme gimme gimme good water,
Gimme gimme gimme good water,
Come on, gimme gimme gimme...

In yesterday's post, we met Sakura, and we saw her getting in trouble by kidnapping an enslaved serving girl in order to set her free.

Part II is the conclusion to her first adventure.

With your trademark Sakai Twist™ )

Sakura is slated to return, according to Stan Sakai, but I've seen no indication of her comeback so far.

Galactus Gags

"Ryan explained to me, he wanted it to be done in our style. He likened and wrote Galactus as Garfield and Norin Radd as Jon. That determined what they were going to look like. When you look at the Silver Surfer, he’s 75 percent of the way there anyway with Jon, all we had to do is give him the big eyes. That was a natural. John kind of hangs around Garfield anyway, he’s the straight man to Garfield’s gags and has to get him food. He’s like Garfield’s herald. Galactus was tougher. We were throwing stuff back and forth, and the initial sketches just weren’t working for Galactus. I said okay, we gotta make him fat. The guy eats planets, for god’s sake! Once we do that, it’s a little less Galactus but certainly a lot more Garfield. It looked more natural. Obviously, Galactus has put on a few mega-tons for this strip." -- Jim Davis

"At least my face can't turn out like the Joker's, or a giant red light bulb as in that Richie Rich comic...right?"

Okay, time to bring out the heavy stuff here. This tale of revenge upon revenge is so ridiculously, over-the-top grotesque and brutal it makes EC's "Foul Play" look like The Very Hungry Caterpillar by comparison. Warning for violence/gore.
